Profix Proud to Support ‘Building Our Skills’ Industry Initiative

A lack of skills and labour shortages has been a hot topic in the construction industry for a while now and many in the window and door sector are talking about the knock-on consequences for our sector as well as on individual businesses. The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors published the results of a survey late last year showing how the problem has been gradually worsening for the last five…

Are your rental properties efficient enough?

On April 1st new Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards were introduced, meaning that around 400,000 homes across England and Wales may be rendered unlettable because they waste too much energy.  The new standards say that all commercial and residential rental properties must achieve a rating of Grade E on Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for any new lettings or lease renewals issued after this date.  Any residential properties on existing tenancies must…

The Humble Back Door

Spring is the time when many homeowners start their home improvement plans. Regardless of what the housing market is doing, people want homes they can be proud of and this often starts at the entrance.  Creating a grand entranceway to a home is becoming increasing popular and according to property experts they are now a “must” to add kerb appeal and style to a property.  Going beyond the extensive choice…

Traditional Colours With Modern Day Choices

Who said colour was a modern trend?  As well as window styles varying throughout the ages, fashions in colours have changed as well.  For example, in the 17th Century windows were predominately oak or left unpainted, whereas skipping forward to the 19th Century windows were always painted.  Staining was not a traditional finish.  Many of the colours available were made with natural, earth and mineral pigments, as well as black, which…

A View To The Budget

Described as ‘make or break’ for the chancellor, the autumn budget included some positive announcements for the housing industry. Touching on key issues surrounding the housing crisis, it indicated there was quite a lot for the industry to get excited about. There’s been a lot of post-budget discussion, and as a whole it’s fair to say we are left feeling ‘positively optimistic’. This is also backed up by the NHBC’s…

Framed With Colour

Colour trends for windows vary to those of doors. Not massively, but there are different considerations. For example, more people choose black for their front door, than they do for their window profile! Anthracite Grey and Chartwell Green have been popular colours for windows (and doors) for some time and look set to continue to be. Grey is particularly popular as consumers try to emulate the sleek, cool look of…
